J.K.Cement Ltd is located out in Kharia Khangarh. If you are coming our way, you have to take the Piper Road in the Jodhpur district. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city, so it feels much more rural out here. The landscape is mostly dry and there is plenty of space around us. Our office is right there in the middle of it. It’s a dusty environment, which is what you expect when you work with cement in Rajasthan. The wind blows the sand around and we are constantly cleaning it off the windows. We don't have any fancy air conditioning systems that work perfectly; we mostly rely on heavy-duty fans to keep the air moving. It’s a hardworking atmosphere. People here are used to the sun and the long days. We deal with a lot of logistics, making sure the trucks are on the right path and the numbers match up at the end of the shift. It’s not a place for someone who wants a quiet, clean desk in a skyscraper. Here, your shoes are always a bit dirty by lunch. We eat together and talk about the local news or whatever is happening on the road. The Piper Road can be busy with heavy vehicles, so that’s the main soundtrack to our day. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs to be done. It’s simple, it’s honest, and it’s how things are done in Jodhpur for us. It keeps us quite busy all year.
