We are over at C-10 in the Arasmeta Cement Plant Colony. This is in Gopalnagar, out in the Janjgir Champa district of Chhattisgarh. The pin code is 495663. It is a very industrial setting but because it is a colony, there are houses and families all around us. The office is basically a house that we use for work. It is simple with white walls and some old wooden chairs. We spend a lot of time looking at spreadsheets and talking on the phone to the main office. Outside, you can hear the hum of the plant most of the time. It becomes like background music after a while. The air is often a bit heavy with dust, so we do a lot of cleaning to keep the computers running. We have a small garden area out front but it’s hard to keep things green in this intense heat. We are a long way from any big city, so we have to be self-sufficient for most things. If something breaks, we usually try to fix it ourselves first. It is a practical life out here. We know everyone else who works at the plant because we all live in the same colony. We just focus on our daily tasks and try to keep things moving along smoothly for the plant. It’s not fancy, but it works for our needs. We just do the job and go home to our families nearby.
