This little school for LKG and UKG is right near Patel Park in Jamnagar. It is a small place, mostly just a few rooms converted for the little ones. Since we are so close to the park, we sometimes take the kids there when the weather is nice, though crossing the street with twenty toddlers is always a bit stressful for the staff. The rooms are full of plastic chairs and low tables. There are drawings taped to the walls, and some of them are starting to peel off at the corners. It smells like crayons and spilled juice most of the time. We have a small outdoor area with a slide that has seen a lot of use over the years. The noise level is pretty high from morning until noon when they all go home. We do not have a big staff, just a few of us who have lived in Jamnagar for years. The parents are usually our neighbors or people we see at the market. It is a very local thing. We do not do anything very formal here. It is about teaching them how to hold a pencil and sit still for more than five minutes. The gate has a tricky latch that you have to jiggle just right to open. Sometimes the sea breeze from the coast reaches us, which is nice in the summer months. It is just a humble place where the smallest kids in the neighborhood start their schooling before moving on to the bigger schools in the city.
