D.K.Metal Works

D.K.Metal Works is situated at M/78 in the MIDC area. If you know MIDC, you know it is all about industry and getting things fabricated. Our shop is not the biggest one on the block, but we have everything we need to work with metal. There is usually the sound of cutting or welding going on from the moment we open the shutters in the morning. The air smells like iron and burnt sparks, which I guess is the smell of work to us. We have a few old machines that still run better than the new ones we bought recently. My dad always said to take care of the equipment and it will take care of you, so we spend our Saturdays cleaning and oiling things. We do all sorts of metal jobs, mostly custom bits that people bring in sketches for on scraps of paper. Sometimes those sketches are hard to read, but we figure it out. The floor is concrete and has plenty of scratches from moving heavy sheets of steel around. We don't have a fancy office for meetings; we usually just talk out on the shop floor where the work is happening. It is dusty and noisy, but it is what we do. We don't spend money on fancy signs or marketing because people around here already know where M/78 is located. We just put on our masks and get to work every single morning.
