Basti Nau is famous for sports goods, and we are right in the middle of it at number 66. It’s a busy area where everyone seems to be making something for a game. Our building is nothing special to look at, just brick and concrete, but inside we are always moving. We make all kinds of sports gear. There’s usually a pile of leather or synthetic materials in the corner. The smell of glue and cut wood is always there. My father started this years ago, and I grew up watching the workers stitch balls and shape bats. Now I'm the one making sure everything gets finished on time. We have a small group of workers who are like family. We sit together for lunch and talk about the local cricket scores. It’s a lot of manual labor, but we don’t mind. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait a bit, but we just use that time to organize the shelves. We aren't looking to become a giant brand. We just want to make stuff that people can use to play. It's practical work that pays the bills and keeps the tradition going in this neighborhood. We have a small storage room in the back that is always overflowing with finished goods ready to be sent out. The windows are usually open to let the dust out. It is a simple place with a lot of history.
