Out here at Rajputo Ka Baas in Hameera, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. VSSODHA CONSTRUCTION PRIVATE LIMITED is basically just us working in the Jaisalmer heat. If you’ve ever been out this way, you know the wind blows the sand onto everything. Our office is right here in the village area. We spend most of our time dealing with stone and yellow sandstone because that’s what everyone uses around here. It’s heavy work and it wears you out by the end of the day. There isn’t any fancy air conditioning in most of the places we work, so we just drink a lot of water and keep moving. We are local people and we know the families around Hameera and the rest of Jaisalmer pretty well. When someone wants to build a wall or a small house, they just walk over and talk to us. We don’t have a website that’s updated or anything like that. Most of our plans are drawn on scraps of paper or just talked through while sitting on a porch. It’s a simple way of doing things but it has worked for us so far. The evenings are the best part when the sun goes down and it finally cools off enough to sit and think about the next day’s work. We just try to do a decent job so that we can keep working the next year.
