Shri Govind Kirana Store

Shri Govind Kirana Store is sitting at number 770 in the middle of Gangouri Bazar. This is one of those old, crowded markets where everything is a bit squeezed together. Our shop is full of the usual groceries like rice, pulses, sugar, and tea. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling and we use a ladder to reach the top items. Gangouri Bazar is a very busy place with scooters and people pushing past all day. We start early in the morning, sweeping the front and getting the sacks of grain ready. It’s a traditional kirana store, so there’s nothing modern about it. We use old scales for some things and write down totals on small scraps of paper. Sometimes we run out of change and have to ask the neighbor shop. The air in the bazar is always full of different smells like spices and exhaust. Our shop at 770 has been part of this street for a long time. People come in for a single kilo of dal or a pack of biscuits. It’s just a lot of weighing and bagging things up. We don't do any advertising; people just know we are here. By the time we close the shutters at night, our hands are usually dusty from the flour bags. It’s just a basic grocery life in a busy market.
