Ramji Lal Satya Prakash & Sons

Our family has been working out of Surajpole Mandi for a long time. The shop is at F-8, and it’s been handed down through the generations. It’s me, my brothers, and the kids help out when they aren't in school. Ramji Lal Satya Prakash & Sons is the name on the board outside, though most people just call us by our names when they walk in. We deal with whatever is coming into the mandi that week. The walls are a bit dusty and the fan makes a clicking sound, but it gets the job done. We spend most of our time on the phone or talking to the farmers who bring their loads in. It is hard work and the days start very early, usually before the sun is even up properly. You get used to the noise of the tractors and the shouting of the auctioneers after a few years. We don't have a big website or anything like that. People just know where we are. If you walk into the F block, you can't miss us. We keep our records in big handwritten books because that’s how we’ve always done it. It’s a bit old-fashioned, I know. Sometimes we lose a pen or two in the mess of papers. But we know every face that comes through that door. It’s just how things go in a place like this and we keep at it day after day.
