Rahul General Store

Our shop, Rahul General Store, is located near the railway station here in Jaipur. It’s a very busy spot because of all the travelers and people coming and going from the trains. I opened this place because there weren't many reliable spots to get small things around Station Road. We carry a bit of everything, like tea leaves, biscuits, batteries, and those little travel soaps. The shop is a bit cramped because we try to fit a lot of stuff on the shelves. Sometimes it’s hard to find things quickly if I'm not the one behind the counter. My brother helps me in the afternoons when the heat is at its worst. We see a lot of tourists looking lost, so we end up giving directions as much as we sell bread. The noise from the station is something you just get used to after a while. We keep the shutters half-down when the sun is too bright in the afternoon to keep the place cool. It's not a big corporate business, just us trying to make a living. The floor is concrete and we sweep it three times a day because of the Jaipur dust. We don't have fancy lights or any of that. Just basic tubes that flicker a bit sometimes. If you need something for your train journey, we're right there near the station. We don't do credit for strangers, only for the neighbors we've known for years. It's a decent shop and we stay open quite late most nights for the passengers.
