Nehru Bazar is always crowded, especially in the evenings. Our shop at 138 is right in the middle of all that noise. I start the day by pulling up the shutters and moving some of the bigger toys out front so people can see them. There are dolls, battery cars, and plenty of board games stacked up to the ceiling. It gets a bit cramped when more than three people walk in at once. We don't have fancy lights or anything. Just the normal tubelights that flicker a bit sometimes. My father started this and now I spend most of my day here. We get a lot of grandmothers looking for something small for their grandkids. The shelves are mostly wooden and old. I try to organize them by age but things get moved around by the kids. It’s hard to keep it perfectly neat. Lunch is usually a tiffin from home while sitting behind the counter. The smell of the street food from outside comes in all day. By seven o’clock, the lights in the bazar are all on and it feels different. We stay open until the crowd thins out. It’s just a simple shop where we sell what we have. Nothing more to it. People come back because they know we are always here. Sometimes the neighbors come by to borrow a chair or just to talk about the weather. We have old posters on the wall that have been there since the day we opened.
