We’ve been here at Ganesham Apartments on Khatipura Road for a while now. Most days just start with opening the shutters and checking what needs to get done. Batteries are heavy things, and my back definitely feels it after moving a few of them around the shop floor. People usually come in when their car won’t start or their home inverter gives up, so they aren't always in the best mood when they walk through the door. I get that. It’s frustrating when things stop working. We just sit here among the stacks of black boxes and try to figure out which one fits the need. Sometimes the shop gets a bit dusty because of the road work outside, but we try to keep things tidy enough. It isn’t a fancy place with bright lights or anything like that. Just a simple spot at number 32 where we keep a stock of different sizes and types. I spend a lot of time on the phone talking to suppliers or explaining to someone why their old battery isn't holding a charge anymore. It's practical work. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us making sure the inventory is right. When the power goes out in the neighborhood, we usually get a lot busier. The tea stall nearby keeps us going through the long afternoons. It’s just how it is, day in and day out, dealing with lead and acid.
