Dhanop Masala Udyog is over at Plot No. 670 in the Vikas Nager Extn area. Our building is not flashy, just a solid place where we get the work done. Every morning, the sound of the grinding machines starts up. It is quite loud, but we are used to it. We handle many different spices here. The air is always thick with the scent of chillies or coriander. It depends on what we are grinding that day. Sometimes the spice in the air makes you sneeze if you are not careful. People living in the 14/2 section of Vikas Nager know we are here because the smell drifts out into the street. It is mostly just a few of us working on the floor, filling bags and moving them to the back. We spend a lot of time checking the raw seeds before they go into the mill. If the weather is too damp, we have to be very careful with the drying process. It is a lot of physical work, moving heavy sacks and keeping the old machines running. We do not have a big corporate team, just regular people who know spices. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from the morning until the sun goes down. Most of our neighbors are also running their own small shops, so it feels like a good community. We just try to keep things moving and get the bags packed.
