Being out here near Govind Nagar and Ekta Vihar in Amer gives Devendra Watch Co a different feel than the shops right in the middle of the city. It’s a bit quieter sometimes, but we still stay busy with the local folks coming in. We’ve got our spot set up where we can work on everything from wall clocks to those small wristwatches people wear nowadays. The shop is pretty basic, just the way we like it. We don't have any shiny displays or big posters. Mostly, it’s just shelves with stuff we need and a glass case for the items we have for sale. People around Amer know us as the place to go when a spring breaks or a glass gets cracked. We take our time with the repairs because rushing usually leads to mistakes with those tiny parts. Sometimes a tourist might wander in because they've had a mishap with their watch while walking around, and we help them out too. It’s a good way to earn a living, honestly. You meet all kinds of people and hear their stories while you're working. The weather gets hot in the summer, so we keep the fan going and just focus on the movement of the gears. It’s not a complicated business, just a matter of knowing how things fit together and being honest about what can be fixed and what cannot be fixed. It keeps us occupied and we like the neighborhood.
