Dawakhana Hakim Damodar Lal Shiv Charan Attar

Our shop is right at 322 Kishanpole Bazar, just across from the Namak Ki Mandi. It is a busy spot and there is always something going on outside the door. The place is called Dawakhana Hakim Damodar Lal Shiv Charan Attar, and we have been in this location for many years now. Inside, the air always smells like herbs and old wooden drawers. It is not a very big space, but we have jars and bottles lined up all the way to the ceiling. Most mornings start with opening the heavy shutters and sweeping the dust off the front step. The bazar gets noisy with all the rickshaws and people shouting, but inside it feels a bit more settled. We know a lot of the shopkeepers nearby and we often see the same people walking past every day on their way to work. It is a simple life here. We don't have any of those bright neon signs or fancy displays you see in the new parts of town. Just the same old counter and the stools where people sit while they wait. Sometimes the fans overhead make a bit of a rattling noise, but nobody really minds. We just keep doing what we do, day after day. It’s about keeping the jars filled and talking to the folks who come in from the Mandi. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t, just a local spot that’s been part of the street for a long time.
