Vaishali Nagar is usually pretty quiet in the early mornings before the shops start opening up. Our place at F 35 isn’t hard to find once you know the lane. I usually walk from the main road because parking is a bit tight right in front of the building. The walls are painted an off-white color that shows every fingerprint, so I find myself wiping them down more often than I’d like. There is a big window in the main room that looks out over the street. You can see the milkman making his rounds if you get here early enough. It’s a decent sized space, enough for what we need without feeling too cramped. The stairs are a bit steep, so you have to watch your step when you’re carrying books or a heavy bag. There is an old clock on the wall that ticks quite loudly when it is quiet in the room. We have some old wooden desks that have been around since the beginning. They have some scratches on them, but they still work fine. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit in the afternoon, but we just open the windows and keep going. It’s just part of being in this part of town. F 35 is a good spot for us. It’s where we do everything, from planning out the week to just sitting and having a quick lunch between tasks. It feels like home after all these years.
