Century Paper

If you head down Jain Hostel Road toward Bawri Ka Bas in Sanganer, you’ll find us. Sanganer is full of paper and textile work, and we are just one part of that old tradition. Century Paper isn't a modern factory with robots. We do a lot of things by hand, and there is paper dust on almost every surface you touch. The building is old and has those thick walls that keep it a little cooler, though it still gets plenty hot in May. We have stacks of raw material piled up in the courtyard, and we are always watching the sky because rain is the enemy of what we do. The workers here have been doing this since they were young, and they can tell the quality of a sheet just by the sound it makes when you flick it. It’s a noisy, messy business, but there’s something nice about seeing the finished stacks at the end of the day. We don't have a website with fancy photos or a PR person. If you want to know what we are doing, you just have to walk in and see the mess for yourself. We use a lot of water and a lot of space, and there’s always a tractor or a cart blocking the narrow road outside. That’s just life in Sanganer for us, and we are used to the rhythm of it.
