Our shop is located at 2173 Nehru Bazar, right in the heart of the Radio Market. It is a very old part of the city, and the streets are always packed with people and scooters. We specialize in screen printing, and we’ve been doing it for a long time. The shop always smells like ink and cleaning fluids. We have screens leaning against every wall and tables covered in paint stains. It’s not a tidy place, but we know where everything is. My hands are usually stained with some color or another by midday. We do a lot of work for local businesses who need posters or wedding cards or simple stickers. People come into the Radio Market for all sorts of electronics, and they often stumble upon us. We don’t do any advertising; the noise of the market and the word of mouth from other shopkeepers is enough. I learned the trade from my elder brother, and now we work side by side. It’s hot in the summer with the fans just pushing the warm air around, but we get used to it. We take pride in the fact that we can do things by hand that machines sometimes mess up. It’s a small, messy, busy life in Nehru Bazar, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The customers seem to like our simple way of working.
