Sardar Sohan Singh Book Seller

You can find us at Shop No. 35 in Bakshi Gali, which is inside Sherwani Plaza near Rajwada. It’s a busy part of town, so there’s always a lot of foot traffic passing by. Sardar Sohan Singh Book Seller has been around this plaza for years. The shop isn't very wide, so we have books stacked all the way to the ceiling. We use a little ladder to reach the ones on the top shelves. It’s mostly just us here, keeping track of what’s coming in and what’s going out. We don't have any fancy computer systems to track every single page; we mostly just remember where things are. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes, especially when a new delivery arrives and the boxes are everywhere. People stop in while they’re out shopping at Rajwada to see if we’ve got something specific. We don't do any big promotions or anything like that. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for people to come in. It’s a simple life, surrounded by paper and ink. The plaza can get hot in the summer, but we’ve got a small fan that keeps us going. It's a traditional kind of bookshop where you can actually browse without someone hovering over you. It's been this way for a long time and we don't plan on changing.
