Komal Hair Salon is tucked away in Gali No 2 in the Khatiwala Tank area. If you’re looking for us, we’re the ones located near the Moriwale Baba spot. It’s a bit of a narrow lane, so it’s mostly people walking or riding on scooters who find their way to us. We’ve been at number 20 for a good while now, and the neighbors are all familiar faces. The shop is small and simple, just like the rest of the buildings on this street. Inside, it’s just the basic stuff you need for cutting hair and nothing else. We don’t have fancy air conditioning or anything like that, just a couple of wall fans that keep the air moving on hot days. Most of the guys who come in have been coming here for years. They sit down in the chair, and we already know exactly how they want their hair done without them saying a word. It’s a lot of talk about local news and what’s happening around Indore. We keep our scissors sharp and the towels as clean as we can, and that’s about the extent of it. Sometimes, small kids come in and they’re a bit scared of the sound of the clippers, so we have to take it slow with them. The floor is just plain concrete and we sweep it out every few hours to keep the hair from piling up. It’s a good little corner of the city to work in.
