Our school sits right on Khandwa Road here in Indore, and if you have ever driven by during the morning rush, you have probably seen the yellow buses lined up. It is a busy part of town, but once you get inside the gates of Imperial Academy, things quiet down a little bit. We have a decent-sized space where the students hang out during their breaks. The halls are usually filled with the smell of lunch boxes around noon. We don’t have any flashy stuff, just regular classrooms with sturdy desks and teachers who have been with us for a long time. Some of the staff have been here since the start, so they know exactly which floorboards creak or which windows are hard to open when it rains. The playground gets pretty dusty when the kids are running around, but that is just how it goes with a lot of feet on the ground. We spend our afternoons making sure the registers are updated and the classrooms are ready for the next day. It is a lot of routine work, like checking uniforms at the gate or making sure the water coolers are full. People in this part of Indore know us as just another part of the neighborhood. We do not try to be something we aren't. It is just a place for learning and growing up, with all the noise and energy that comes with a bunch of young people in one building.
