Harisa Pisai Kendra

The shop is in Sector-A New Bajrang Pura. We are quite close to the Parle-G factory on Sanwer Road, so you can often smell the biscuits baking when the wind blows the right way. Our place is where people bring their wheat and spices to get them ground into flour or powder. It is a very noisy job because the machines run almost all day long. There is usually a thin layer of white flour dust on everything, no matter how much we sweep. Customers come in with heavy bags on their cycles or scooters. We just take them, weigh them, and get to work. It is hard work and our hands get tired, but it is what we do. The area here in New Bajrang Pura is mostly industrial and residential mixed together. It gets very hot in the afternoons, especially with the heat from the motors. We have a small bench outside where people wait for their turn. My clothes are always covered in flour by the time I go home. We don’t have any fancy machines, just the old reliable ones that get the job done. Sometimes we have to stop and fix a belt or sharpen the stones. It’s a messy business but everyone needs fresh flour for their rotis. We have been here for a good amount of time and know the local families well. We try to be helpful and get the grinding done quickly.
