Vara Laxmi & Genaral Store

Living in the Jnnurm colony in Bahadurpally is always interesting because there are so many families living close together. Our store, Vara Laxmi & Genaral Store, is in Block No 30/08. It is a small place, but we try to keep a little bit of everything on the shelves. From soap to lentils, we have the things that people run out of in the middle of cooking dinner. The Indiramma Colony is a busy neighborhood, so there is always someone knocking on the door or standing at the counter. Kids come in after school looking for small snacks, and we know most of them by their names. The shelves are made of wood and they are starting to sag a little from the weight of the jars, but they hold up well enough. We do not have a fancy computer system to scan items; we just know the prices and write them down in a notebook. It is a very personal way to do things. Sometimes we run out of stock when the delivery truck is late, and we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It is not a perfect system, but it works for our community here in Bahadurpally. The evenings are the busiest time when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they forgot to buy milk or tea leaves for the morning.
