Shyam Deepak Engineering Works is right on the Main Road in Goutham Nagar, Balanagar. You can’t miss us if you are driving by H No 7-8-308/1. It is a loud place because we are always cutting metal or welding something. The shop is open to the street, so the dust and the noise from the traffic come right in. We’ve been doing this kind of work for years. We aren't engineers with fancy degrees in an air-conditioned office. We are guys who learned by doing, with grease on our hands and sparks flying everywhere. The floor is usually covered in metal scraps and tools. We don’t have a salesperson or a front desk. If you want something fixed or made, you just walk in and talk to whoever isn't holding a torch at that moment. Sometimes we get big jobs that take all night, and other times it is just a small repair for a neighbor. We don't use a computer for much besides the basic stuff. Most of our plans are drawn on scraps of paper or just kept in our heads. It’s a bit messy and it’s definitely hot in the summer, but we like the work. We aren't trying to be a global company. We just want to do a good job for the people who come into the shop. That is how we’ve always run things here in Balanagar.
