If you head over to the Sanathnagar industrial estate in Hyderabad, you’ll find Vascon Engineering Equipments at C-31/1. The address is a bit of a mouthful, but once you’re in the estate, it’s not too hard to spot us. It’s a very active area with lots of engineering shops and manufacturing units all crammed together. Our place is basically a large shed with plenty of room for the bigger pieces of equipment we handle. The floor is stained with years of work, and the sound of metal hitting metal is pretty much the soundtrack to our day. We don’t have any fancy air conditioning in the main work area, so the ceiling fans stay on high most of the time. The office is just a small partitioned area in the front where we keep the ledger and the phone. Most of the guys have been working here for years, so we all know the routine without having to talk about it too much. We start early to beat the worst of the Hyderabad heat. There’s always a lot of heavy lifting involved, and the yard outside usually has some scrap or finished parts waiting to be moved. We don’t go in for marketing or polished presentations; we just show people what we’ve built or fixed. It’s a gritty, honest way to make a living, and we’ve been doing it right here in Sanathnagar for a good while now.
