At S. S. Jute Products, we spend most of our time surrounded by piles of burlap and raw jute fibers. Our workplace is more of a warehouse than a proper office, and there is always that distinct, earthy smell of jute in the air. It’s a tough material to work with because it’s heavy and the fibers get everywhere—on your skin, in your hair, and all over the floor. We aren't a big, fancy company with a lot of people in suits. We’re just a small group of workers who know how to handle the sacks and the rolls. Most of our day involves checking the strength of the stitching on the bags or making sure the orders are bundled up correctly for the transporters. It’s very manual work, and we don't have many machines to help with the heavy lifting, so we just do it by hand. The tin roof of the warehouse makes it incredibly hot during the summer, and when it rains, it’s so loud we can barely hear each other speak. We don't have any promotional slogans or a marketing plan. We just focus on getting the jute products ready for the customers who need them. It’s messy and it’s tiring, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing the trucks loaded up and ready to go. We just keep things practical and don't worry about the small stuff that doesn't matter.
