Jr.Gis Engineer

We are located over at Bapu Nagar, right in the Langar House area of Hyderabad. Specifically, the address is 9-1-34/30/38. It’s a bit of a maze back here if you aren't used to the lane numbers. I spend my days as a Jr.Gis Engineer, which mostly means looking at a lot of maps and data on a screen. It’s quiet work for the most part. Hyderabad is getting bigger every day, and seeing it all on the computer screen is interesting. Bapu Nagar is a decent place to be based. There are plenty of little shops nearby to grab a quick snack or a chai during the afternoon slump. I’ve got my computer set up, and that’s where I stay for most of the eight or nine hours I’m here. People sometimes ask what GIS is, and I just tell them I deal with locations. It’s practical stuff. The building we are in is nothing special to look at, just a regular place in 500008. The traffic on the main road can be a headache, so I try to leave before the rush starts. Sometimes I get stuck here late finishing a map. The street lights in this part of Langar House aren't always the brightest, but we manage. It’s just me and the data mostly. No big team, just getting the coordinates right. It's honest work and keeps me busy. I have my own little corner and that is enough for me.
