India Wrapping Paper Industry

If you go over to D 126 in Phase III of Ida Jeedimetla, you will find India Wrapping Paper Industry. It is a big shed filled with rolls of paper in all different sizes and weights. The air always smells a bit like wood pulp and old glue. We spend our days mostly cutting and winding paper so it’s ready for other businesses to use for their packaging. It’s a repetitive kind of work, but there is a certain rhythm to it that you get used to after a week or two. The machines we use are pretty loud, so we usually have to shout to be heard over the hum. We aren’t really interested in being a big name; we just focus on making sure the edges are straight and the rolls are tight. Sometimes the power goes out in Phase III, and we all just sit outside on the steps and wait for it to come back on. It gives us a chance to talk about the local news or the cricket scores. Our building has a few leaks when it pours, so we have to be careful where we stack the finished stock. We don’t have a website or any of that, just the sign on the door and the address for the delivery drivers. It’s a simple operation run by people who have been in the paper trade for most of their lives.
