Genenral Engg. Co. is right in the middle of the chaos at City Market, near Ajmeri Gate Chowk. If you’ve ever been down there, you know it’s one of the busiest spots in the city. Our shop is unit 3964/237, and it’s packed floor to ceiling with heavy engineering parts, valves, and tools. There’s barely enough room to walk between the shelves. The air always smells a bit like oil and old metal, which is just how an engineering shop should be. We spend a lot of time digging through boxes to find exactly the right size bolt or fitting for a customer. It’s a lot of manual work and we usually end the day with grease under our fingernails. The market outside is always loud with people shouting and horns honking, but inside we just focus on the orders we have to get out. We’ve been at this location for years, and we’ve seen the market change quite a bit, though it never seems to get any quieter. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. People come to us because we have the stuff they need for their machines. It’s a practical, no-nonsense kind of place. We open early to catch the mechanics and contractors before they start their day and stay open until things start to wind down in the evening. It’s hard work, but someone has to provide the parts that keep the city running.
