Hussani Alam is a busy part of Hyderabad, and our spot is right there, opposite the old Button Factory. It’s an old building, number 20-2-656/1, and you can tell it’s seen better days just by looking at the walls. The street outside is always narrow and crowded with rickshaws and people carrying bags of goods. Inside, it stays a bit cooler because of the thick walls, which is a relief when the sun is beating down on the city. We handle chemicals, so there’s a lot of inventory to keep track of in the back rooms. It’s mostly just us moving boxes and writing down numbers in ledgers. We don't use many fancy computers; we still like our paper files and handwritten notes. The smell of the street—food, exhaust, and dust—mixes with the faint scent of whatever we have in stock that day. We know most of the people on the block, and we usually trade greetings over the noise of the traffic. Sometimes we have to wait for the trucks to clear the road before we can even get a delivery in. It’s a bit of a struggle some days with the congestion, but we’ve been here long enough that we don’t think much about it anymore. There are no fancy signs or bright lights, just the name on the door and us doing what needs to get done before the evening.
