We’ve been here at 102, S V C I E for a while now. It’s mostly just the sound of machines and a lot of metal scraps on the floor if we don't sweep up twice a day. The guys come in early, usually around nine, and we start looking at what came in from the day before. Engineering isn't fancy. It's mostly measuring things twice and making sure the lathes are running right. Sometimes the power cuts out for a bit, but that's just how things are around here. We handle a lot of small parts, mostly stuff people need for their own machines. My desk is usually covered in drawings that have coffee rings on them. It’s not a showroom, it’s a workshop. People come in, tell us what they need, and we see if we can do it. Most of the time we can. We’ve got a couple of old machines that still work better than the new ones we bought last year. It gets hot in the afternoons, especially in the back where the ventilation isn't the best, so we take turns going out for chai. It’s a living. We don't have a big office or anything, just this spot in the industrial estate. Most of our neighbors do the same kind of stuff. We know the guys at the tea stall pretty well by now. That’s about it for us at V K Engineering.
