Soft & Hard

Soft & Hard is located at 65 Shibpur Road. It’s a pretty straightforward place. Shibpur is a busy area, and the road gets a lot of traffic throughout the day. Our shop isn't very large, just a simple storefront where we handle both software and hardware issues. That’s why we picked the name. People walk in with all sorts of computer problems. Maybe a laptop won’t turn on or a program is acting up. We sit at the back and take things apart to see what’s wrong. It’s a lot of screws and small parts all over the tables. The shop feels a bit lived-in because we have been here for years. There are old monitors in the corner and stacks of motherboards that we use for parts. It’s not a shiny showroom. It’s a workspace. We don’t have many employees, just a couple of us who know our way around a circuit board. Shibpur Road is always noisy, with rickshaws and people talking outside the door. We usually have a radio playing in the background to drown it out. Most of our customers are from the neighborhood. They know they can just drop in and ask a question. We don’t have a complicated system for taking orders. We just write it down in a notebook and get to work. It’s a humble place, but it serves the people around here just fine. We keep it open late most nights because that's when people have the time to come by after work. It works for us.
