S. Roy & Co.

You can find us right by the bus stop on Salkia Road in Howrah. Being at number 98 means we see a lot of people waiting for their buses every single day. Sometimes people just pop in because they have a few minutes to spare before their ride arrives. S. Roy & Co. has been a fixture here for many years. The building is old, and you can tell by the way the walls look, but it is sturdy. We do not do anything flashy. We just sell the usual things like tea, biscuits, and household supplies. The floor is made of old stone and it has seen a lot of feet walk across it over the decades. I usually sit near the front so I can see the street. It is interesting to watch the world go by from behind the counter. Howrah is always busy, and the noise of the buses and horns is constant, but I do not even notice it much anymore. We have a few assistants who help with moving the heavier sacks of rice or flour. We do not have a computer system, so everything is calculated by hand or with a small battery-powered calculator. It is the way we have always done it. We are just a local business trying to be useful to the people who live and travel through this part of town. It stays pretty much the same year after year.
