About Raju Hand Embroidery – Art & Craft in Howrah
We operate out of Khorop South Para in Amta. Our focus is on hand embroidery. This is a local thing we do right here in the neighborhood. We don't use machines for the patterns. It's all done with a needle and thread by hand. It's slow work, and you have to be careful not to make mistakes. The workshop is just a room with enough space for us to sit and work on the frames. We've got thread in every shade you can imagine. Amta is where we live and work. We don't have a big corporate structure. It's just a few people who know how to sew well. We take on orders from local people or small shops. Sometimes we work late into the night when a job needs to be finished. The patterns we make are traditional. We don't try to be modern or trendy. We just do what we know. Our hands are usually busy all day. It’s quiet work, mostly. We talk while we stitch to pass the time. The house in South Para is easy to find if you're from around here. We don't have a website or any ads. People just know us for the work we produce. It’s a simple life. We make sure the stitching is tight and the colors look right before we hand it over. It is how things have been done for a long time. We take pride in staying with the old ways.
