Mitra Bricks Field

You can find Mitra Bricks Field over in Purba Satgachia. We are quite close to the Guptipara Railway Station, so the sound of the trains is something we hear all day long. We are in the Kalna area of Purba Burdwan. It is a busy place to run a business, but being near the station helps with getting people to notice where we are. We have a large area where we dig the clay and set the bricks to dry. It is a lot of physical work and my hands are usually covered in dirt by midday. We don't really have a formal way of doing things; we just see what needs to be done and do it. Sometimes the kiln doesn't heat up like it should, and we lose a whole batch, which is frustrating, but we just keep going. We aren't trying to impress anyone with big words or polished talk. We just provide bricks to the local villagers and some of the contractors who are building the newer houses near the station. It is a simple life and a simple business. We have been here through many floods and dry spells. Each year is a bit different, but the bricks stay the same. If you are getting off the train at Guptipara, you aren't far from us at all. We just keep our heads down and do the work the best we can every day.
