Kalpana Caterer & Decorators

We run Kalpana Caterer & Decorators over in the Sitalatala area of Chandan Nagar. It’s a dual kind of business where we handle both the food and the look of the venue. Our office is just a small room where we keep our records and some samples of fabrics and lights. We’ve lived in Chandan Nagar forever, so we know the streets and the halls pretty well. Doing both catering and decorating keeps us very busy. One day we’re talking about menu items like fish fry and mutton, and the next we’re measuring out space for a stage. It’s a lot to keep track of, but we’ve got a routine down. Sitalatala is a nice, familiar spot for us. We don't go in for fancy talk or expensive advertising. If someone likes our work, they tell their cousins, and that’s how we get more jobs. The kitchen can be a bit of a madhouse when we’re prepping for a big wedding, and the storage area is packed with poles and curtains. It’s not always pretty behind the scenes, but we get the job done. We’re just local people working hard to make ends meet. We take things one day at a time and try to keep our gear in decent shape. That’s really all there is to it. We aren't corporate people, just a group of workers trying to provide for our families. It’s a lot of physical labor but we don't mind it. We just want to keep the local tradition going.
