Khandelwal Decorators has been around Lashkar in Gwalior for a good while. Our place is right opposite the Jiwaji Club, near Utsav Vatika. It’s a very traditional part of Gwalior, and we like it that way. The shop is more of a workspace where we keep all our supplies. We have huge rolls of colorful cloth, wooden frames, and boxes of lights stacked up to the ceiling. It’s a bit dusty because of all the fabric, but it’s a busy kind of dust. We don't spend much time sitting behind a desk. Most of the day is spent loading trucks or sewing together new drapes for a stage. When people come to see us, we usually sit on a couple of old chairs and talk about what they need for their function. There’s no high-pressure sales talk here. We just show them what we have and tell them what it will cost. The area around Jiwaji Club is quite nice, though the roads can get cramped when there is a big wedding at the Vatika. We’ve seen the city change a lot over the years, but the way we do things hasn't changed much. We rely on our hands and our experience. It’s physical work, and by the end of the day, we are usually pretty tired, but the shop gets opened again the next morning without fail.
