Icelend Ice Cream Parlour

Our parlour is called Icelend Ice Cream Parlour and we are situated in Shiv Sadan on Moti Mahal Road. This part of Gwalior, near Padav, is always moving. We are quite close to the Union Bank of India, so we get people coming in after they finish their bank business. The 474001 area gets incredibly hot in the summer, so the freezers are always humming loudly to keep everything cold. Sometimes the noise of the compressors is the only thing you can hear. We have a few plastic chairs for people to sit on, but they are usually scratched up from years of use. The floor gets sticky sometimes and we are always mopping it up. It isn't a fancy place with neon lights or anything. It's just a room with several big chest freezers and a counter. We spend a lot of time checking the temperature gauges to make sure nothing melts when the power flickers. Moti Mahal Road is loud with buses and cars, but inside Shiv Sadan, it’s a bit more sheltered. We see kids coming in after school and older folks who want something sweet. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who take turns standing behind the glass. We don't use any complicated systems, just a notebook to keep track of what we need to order next. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living here in Padav.
