Kamalesh Pan Bhandar

Kamalesh Pan Bhandar is located right on K C Sen Road in the Paltanbazar area of Guwahati. It is a busy part of the city, especially with the railway station nearby. The shop isn't very large, just a small space where we keep all the different types of supari, tobacco, and the fresh leaves we get every morning. It gets quite humid here in Guwahati, so we have a small fan that runs all day long to keep things comfortable. Most of our days are spent sitting behind the counter watching the traffic go by. There is always a lot of noise from the buses and the rickshaws outside. We have been here for a while now, so we know many of the people who work in the nearby offices. They usually come by after their lunch for a quick pan or just to pick up some small things. We don't have any big signs or anything, just the usual setup you see in this part of town. Sometimes the rain gets really heavy and we have to pull the shutter halfway down so the water doesn't come inside. It’s a simple life running a shop like this. We make sure to keep the shelves filled with whatever people usually ask for, like matches or sweets. The evening time is when it gets really crowded because everyone is heading back home. We just stay open until the street gets quiet and the lights finally go out.
