Sai Sweets & Dine

Sohna Chowk is always a bit of a mess with all the traffic and the noise from the street. We are right there on Jail Road at Sohna Chowk 13, and sometimes I think the car horns never actually stop. Inside the shop, it’s a whole different thing though. We start pretty early every morning, getting the milk boiled and the sugar ready for the sweets. It’s a lot of manual work, and our hands are usually busy from the moment the sun comes up. People come in for a quick bite or to pack something for home to give to their families. We have tables for those who want to sit down and eat, but it gets pretty tight during the lunch hour when the office crowd arrives. The staff is mostly just a few guys who have been working here forever. We don't really have a big corporate plan or anything like that. We just make sure the food is ready and the floor is swept as much as we can manage. Sometimes we run out of something popular and people get a bit annoyed, but that’s just how it goes when you’re making stuff fresh every day. It’s hard work, especially in the summer with the stoves going, but it’s what we do. You see the same faces every day, which is nice. It makes the long hours feel shorter when you can just have a regular conversation.
