Richa Spices

Richa Spices is based in Orathala. We are located right near the Higher Secondary School, so every morning and afternoon we hear the sound of the school bell and all the kids chatting as they walk past. It’s a nice, lively part of the village. We focus on spices, which is a big part of life around here. Our building isn't anything special to look at, just a sturdy place where we can store and sort our products. We spend a lot of time sitting on stools, sorting through the raw materials by hand. It’s a slow process but it’s how we have always done it. The air in the shop always smells like pepper and cardamom. We don't have any big marketing plans or a sales team. Usually, it’s just one or two of us handling everything from the cleaning to the bagging. The rain can be quite heavy in this region, and when it pours, the sound on the tin roof is so loud we can hardly hear each other talk. We just wait it out and keep working. People from the neighborhood often stop by just to say hello or buy a small bag of whatever we have ready. It’s a simple life and we aren't trying to make it anything more than it is. Just a small spice business near the school.
