Pardeep Deswal

My name is Pardeep Deswal and I’ve set myself up at 2319E/3 in Rajiv Nagar. If you know Gurgaon, you know how much it has changed, but Rajiv Nagar still feels like the old part of town in many ways. My spot is in a narrow lane, and it can be a bit tricky to find if you aren't looking closely for the house number. I’ve been here for a couple of years now. The room I work in is small, and I’ve got some metal shelves lining the walls to hold all the supplies. There’s a small window that looks out onto the street, where I can see the kids playing after school. Gurgaon is usually associated with big towers, but this is a much more grounded neighborhood. I usually walk to the local market for lunch because it’s faster than trying to drive through the local traffic. It’s a simple life here. I don't have a big staff, maybe just one person who comes in a few times a week to help with the heavy lifting. The floor is plain concrete, and I’ve got a single bulb that hangs from the middle of the ceiling. It’s not the kind of place people visit to see a show; it’s where I actually do the hard work. Sometimes the internet is slow, and I have to wait around for things to load, but that’s just how it goes sometimes in this part of town.
