Navjot Jalhan

Navjot Jalhan is my name, and I work out of Maruti Kunj in Gurgaon. It’s got that feel of a planned colony but with its own quirks. I am over at 1058 in the Type C quarters. It is not the flashy part of Gurgaon with the high-rise glass buildings you see in the news. This is more of a grounded, everyday neighborhood. The house is where everything happens for me. I’ve set up a desk in one of the rooms and that’s where the business gets done. It can get quite dusty because of all the construction nearby, but we manage. The commute around here can be a bit of a headache with the Haryana traffic, so I prefer staying put and working from this address. The walls are painted a standard off-white and there are stacks of paper everywhere. I don’t believe in having a fancy office just to impress people. If the work gets done, that is what matters. Most of the neighbors are families who have lived here for years. We all know each other’s names. It is a quiet existence compared to the city center. Sometimes the water supply is a bit erratic in the summers, but we have a tank for that. It’s just a normal Indian household that doubles as a workplace. Nothing more and nothing less than that, really. I like that I can walk outside and be part of a real community for a while during my breaks.
