G.K. Glass & Aluminium Works

G.K. Glass & Aluminium Works is located at Shop No 8 in the Chelu Ram Market on M.G. Road. It’s very easy to find because we are right near Metro Pillar No. 56 in Sikanderpur. The sound of the metro trains passing by overhead is something we hear all day long, but after a while, you stop noticing it. The shop is often filled with bits of aluminum frames and sheets of glass leaning against the walls. We spend most of our time measuring things and cutting them to size. It gets quite dusty with all the work going on, so we are always sweeping up. My hands usually have a few small scratches from the metal edges, but that's just part of the job. People come in from the market asking about windows or doors, and we just talk to them plainly about what can be done. It's a hardworking environment. We don't have much time for sitting around. When the sun hits the glass in the afternoon, the whole shop brightens up quite a bit. Sometimes the traffic on M.G. Road gets really backed up, and we watch the cars from the front of the shop while we take a tea break. It’s a basic shop in a busy part of Sikanderpur. We focus on the tasks at hand and try to finish them before the market closes for the night. That is just how the days go for us here.
