Computer Operator

We are located over at Taurus Home Fur. Ltd. in Phase-4 of Udyog Vihar. Specifically, it’s Plot No.418 in Gurgaon. The sign says Computer Operator, and that’s pretty much what goes on here. It’s an industrial area, so there are a lot of trucks and factories around us. The building is functional and doesn’t have many decorations. Inside, it’s mostly the hum of the machines and the tapping of keys. We spend the whole day processing data and making sure the records are correct. It’s not the kind of job that gets written about in magazines. It’s just steady work. The lighting is a bit bright and the desks are old, but they work for us. We usually bring our own lunch or get something from the small stalls nearby. There’s always a bit of dust because of all the construction in Gurgaon, so we spend time cleaning the equipment. We don’t have any big slogans or "missions." We just come in, sit at the computers, and do the data entry or whatever else is needed for the day. It’s a very plain and simple way of earning a living. We know each other well since it's a small group of staff. We just focus on the screen and try to get the numbers right before the end of the shift. No one is making a big fuss about anything here.
