If you are looking for Mahima Furnitures, we are right on Main Capasaheda Road in Sector-14. We sit directly opposite the H.D.F.C. Bank, which is a good thing because everyone knows where that is. The shop is usually full of the smell of cut wood and polish. Sometimes it gets so crowded with sofas and dining tables that you have to squeeze through the aisles sideways. We don’t have those fancy air-conditioned showrooms you see in the malls. It’s just us and the furniture. Most of the pieces here are things we’ve moved around ten times to make space for something new. The traffic outside on the main road is always a bit of a nightmare, especially when we are trying to load a truck with a heavy cupboard. My cousins help out with the deliveries, and they have some stories about carrying beds up narrow stairs. We have been in this spot for years, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit around us. People often stop by after they finish their work at the bank across the street. They might not buy anything that day, but they like to touch the wood and see what we are working on. We use simple tools and a lot of elbow grease. It is hard work, especially in the heat, but seeing a finished wardrobe ready to go out makes it okay.
