Raj Traders

Raj Traders is located at No. 5/91 in Shivaji Nagar. It’s a basic setup. We’ve got a lot of stock piled up against the walls. Most days, I’m here by eight to open up the shutters. It’s usually me and one other person handling the orders. Shivaji Nagar is a tight neighborhood, so everyone knows each other. The space is a bit cramped because we try to keep a lot of variety on hand. My desk is tucked in the back under a small lamp. I spend a lot of time on the phone talking to suppliers or checking the ledgers. It’s not very exciting work, but it keeps us busy. The street outside is narrow, so when the trucks come to unload, it’s a whole process of moving things around. We’ve had some leaks in the roof during the heavy rains, so we have to be careful where we stack the boxes. I’ve thought about moving to a bigger place, but I like being here. My neighbors have been here as long as I have. We share tea in the afternoon and complain about the traffic. It’s a simple business. We buy things, we store them, and we sell them. There aren't any fancy displays or anything like that. Just shelves and boxes and a lot of paperwork. I’ve been doing this for a long time and I don't see myself doing anything else. It's just a regular local trading spot.
