We are out at Plot No. 397 in Udyog Kendra II. It is a typical industrial patch where every building looks a bit like the next one. We have been in this specific plot for a long time, and the walls are covered in marks from all the equipment we have moved in and out over the years. The space is mostly taken up by the big lathes and the storage racks for the raw steel. It isn't a place for people wearing suits. We wear our work clothes and usually go home with a bit of oil on our hands. The roof is made of corrugated sheets, so when it rains, it gets incredibly loud inside, and we have to shout to hear each other. We have a small desk near the front where we keep the ledger and the phone. There isn't any fancy computer system or anything like that; we just write things down as they happen. The neighbor at Plot 396 often comes over to borrow some grease or just to complain about the traffic on the main road. We don't have a big sign out front, just the plot number painted on the gate. It’s a quiet life of steady work. Most of us have been doing this for decades, so we know the machines better than we know our own cars. We just focus on getting the orders done and making sure everything is ready before it leaves the shop. It’s plain, hard work every single day.
