S.S.V. Tea Traders

Birahana Road is a busy place to be. Our shop sits at Plot No.24/12, right across from the Geeta Press Gorakhpur Pustak Bhandar. It’s an old building, but it serves the purpose. We deal in the tea trade, which mostly means days spent moving heavy sacks and sorting through different grades of leaves. After the first week, you get used to the smell of dry tea that fills the air. No fancy signs or big storefronts exist here to attract people. Most customers have been coming to this same spot for years and they know the routine. Work starts early in the morning when the street is still quiet. By ten, the traffic outside gets loud and stays that way until late. The people walking past the bookshop sometimes kick up a bit of dust. We don't use computers much, preferring ledgers and phone calls. This isn't a polished business with a mission statement. We just make sure the tea is where it needs to be. Even though the floors are uneven and the walls need some paint, the space works for us. Keeping our heads down and handling the daily load is the main thing. It’s simple work. Buying tea and selling it to those who need it is the whole story of what happens here. It is what we have always done. We are glad to be on Birahana Road.
