We are the Sardarnagartaal Fish Farmers Producer Company Limited. You can find us over in Nigharia Kuraghat, which is in the Gorakhpur Sadar area. Unlike many of our neighbors who focus on grain or vegetables, our lives revolve mostly around the water. Dealing with fish brings its own set of challenges, like keeping the ponds clean and making sure the fry are healthy. We started this group because selling fish individually was becoming a real struggle at the local markets. By working together, we can share the costs of transport and feed, which helps everyone out a bit. The office in Gorakhpur is a basic setup where we keep our nets and some of the supplies we need. It smells like the outdoors and wet earth most of the time. We aren't corporate people; we are just locals who know a lot about the local water and what species do best here. Sometimes the oxygen levels in the ponds drop and we have to stay up all night fixing it. It is exhausting work, but it keeps the community going. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing team. We just rely on the quality of what we pull out of the water. If you walk through Nigharia, you’ll see us busy at the water's edge most mornings before the sun gets too high in the sky. It is just our way of life here in this part of Gorakhpur.
