Our place, Sharma Building Material Supplier, is situated in Amgaon right in the middle of the main market. We are very close to the Ram Mandir, so we often hear the bells and the prayers while we are working, which is a nice backdrop to a long day. Being a supplier means we have a bit of everything scattered around the yard. There are piles of sand, heaps of different sized gravel, and stacks of bricks and cement bags piled under the tin roofs. It is a bit crowded because space in the market is tight, but we make it work by keeping things organized as best as we can. The trucks have to be careful when they back in so they don’t get stuck in the market traffic or bump into any of the nearby shops. It’s a noisy environment with people shouting, horns honking, and the sound of shovels hitting the ground. We get all sorts of people coming in, from homeowners needing a few bags of sand to fix a floor to contractors looking for a full truckload of materials. We don't spend much time sitting down; there is always an order to check or a delivery to coordinate. The dust from the cement and sand gets on everything, including our clothes and the small office where we keep the books. It is just the way a building supply yard is supposed to look and feel when it's right in the heart of a town.
